Publishing Journey
Bre was finishing her M.A. in Creative Writing and was asked by a publishing professor how she would give back to the writing community. After thinking long and hard about it, she decided to fight against the rampant use of censorship in publishing and to give writers their voice back. This birthed her movement to "Give a Voice to the Voiceless," which has guided her endeavors ever since. In March 2019, she founded The Dark Sire Literary Magazine ([TDS], now a literary journal), a creative outlet for darker themed content and mental health awareness, and BSC Publishing Group (BSC), the small press that would publish TDS. The magazine went international, in readership and contributors, by Issue 2. In order to continue giving back to the writing community, Bre nominates TDS authors for both the The Pushcart Prize and The Stoker Awards, and she also holds The TDS Annual Creative Awards, celebrating the accomplishments of writers of gothic, horror, fantasy, and psychological realism.
Bre stepped away from publishing after 2 years with TDS and BSC to pursue agenting in July 2021, because she wanted to give back to the writing community even more. She thought she could become a bridge for writers and thus help them reach their creative goals and professional dreams outside of "just being a publisher." However, she quit agenting in February 2022 after the agency she worked for dropped her client list and forced her into a mandatory hiatus - all without discussion beforehand.
Bre rejoined TDS and BSC in March 2022 - just in time for their 3-year founding anniversary - as Editor-in-Chief and President, respectively. "Glad to be home," she's using her agenting/publishing/editing/coaching skills to uplift, progress, and promote the writers that she publishes through TDS and BSC.
As a publisher, one thing is certain: Bre's life's work is first and foremost to be a publisher who contributes to the literary world by helping writers progress in their careers. Be that in editing, coaching, or promotion, the publisher in her will not rest until she's helped writers succeed. And in keeping with "giving back" to the writing community and "giving a voice to the voiceless," she's full steam ahead with TDS and BSC in their goal to help change the publishing industry... for the betterment of writers... one writer at a time.
